Thanjavur Brihadeeswara temple | தஞ்சை பிரகதீசுவரர் கோயில்

Tanjore Brihadeeswara temple is also known by other names such as, Thanjai Peruvudayar koil and Thanjavur big temple which is located in Tamil Nadu, India. This was built in 1010 by the great ruler of Tamil Nadu- Raja raja Cholan who also known as Arul mozhi varman (Ponniyin selvan). The temple tower(விமானம் ) is 66 meter height.

This temple was built to express their pride of conquering such a great kingdom. This temple was fully built by the granite. The kalasam or vimanam or top of the tower is nearly 81 tonnes and was believed that it was a single piece.

The recent researches proved that vimanam is not made by single rock. The Temple has a huge collection of inscriptions. The surrounding wall is 270m length and 140m breadth. Moolavar is Lord shiva and has outer deities such as Suryan, Chandran, Dakshinamoorthy. The total temple is about 130,000 tonnes of granites. Another popular thing in this temple is that the shadow of the vimana is never fall in the ground.
